Build-a-Bear and Pokémon Team Up Again to Release Riolu Plus

Pokémon and Build-a-Bear are once again collaborating, this time with the release of a Riolu plush. As is typical with these exclusive releases, the Riolu Build-a-Bear will be available only through Build-a-Bear, and given the popularity of Pokémon-themed plush toys, fans should act quickly if they want to add Riolu to their collection.

First introduced in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, Riolu is the pre-evolved form of Lucario, one of the franchise's beloved Pokémon. While Lucario tends to overshadow Riolu in popularity, this marks the first time the Pokémon’s evolutionary line has been highlighted by Build-a-Bear, though Lucario itself has yet to receive its own plush from the company. Previously, Build-a-Bear celebrated Lucario by offering a Charmander plush with a Lucario hoodie, but now Riolu gets its time in the spotlight.

The Riolu Build-a-Bear, which follows the October release of a Cubone plush, comes with more than just a soft toy. In addition to the plush itself, Riolu includes a custom hoodie and a 5-in-1 audio chip that plays its voice clips. The hoodie is simple, featuring a white design with a Poke Ball graphic at the center. This limited-edition plush is priced at $57 USD, making it a great addition for fans of the Pokémon series.

Since the beginning of their partnership in 2015, Build-a-Bear and Pokémon have created a wide range of plush toys, starting with Pikachu. Over the years, other popular Pokémon such as various Eeveelutions, Jigglypuff, and classic starters have joined the collection.

While future releases beyond Riolu are not yet known, fans should keep an eye out for potential leaks or announcements, especially as the partnership approaches its 10-year anniversary. Many fans are hoping for the return of some previously discontinued Build-a-Bear Pokémon or even the revival of outfits from past releases in honor of the milestone.
